{"id":607,"date":"2014-08-19T17:55:39","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T17:55:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dermotlacey.ie\/blog\/?p=607"},"modified":"2014-09-05T18:01:49","modified_gmt":"2014-09-05T18:01:49","slug":"in-the-news-alone-charity-single-launched","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dermotlacey.ie\/blog\/2014\/08\/in-the-news-alone-charity-single-launched\/","title":{"rendered":"In the news: ALONE charity single launched"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catholicireland.net\/charity-single-launched\/\" target=\"_blank\">CatholicIreland.net<\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dublin Labour Councillor Dermot Lacey has penned a new song which he hopes will directly fund vital services for older people.<\/p>\n<p>Released on Monday, the charity single is titled The Ballad of Rosie Hackett and it can be bought on iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the new Rosie Hackett Bridge spanning the River Liffey, the music for Cllr\u2019s Lacey\u2019s song was composed by Martin Tourish and vocals were provided by singer Geraldine Finn.<\/p>\n<p>In May of this year, the new bridge was officially opened. Councillor Lacey was the head of the naming committee which sought advice from the public on who the bridge should be named after.<\/p>\n<p>The five names that made the final shortlist were Bram Stoker, Rosie Hackett, Kay Mills, Frank Duff and the founder of ALONE, Willie Bermingham.<\/p>\n<p>Motivated by Rosie, the woman who founded the Irish Women\u2019s Workers Union, Cllr Lacey put pen to paper and wrote a ballad.<\/p>\n<p>Having written the song, the Cllr drafted in Geraldine Finn, a singer from Co Galway to sing the vocals and Martin Tourish, a Dublin-based accordionist, composer and producer, originally from Co Donegal, to compose the track.<\/p>\n<p>He felt that it would be a fitting tribute for all proceeds from sales of The Ballad of Rosie Hackett to go to ALONE, the charity founded by shortlisted Willie Bermingham.<\/p>\n<p>When the track was finished, he approached ALONE and generously signed over full copyright of the song to the charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that over the years these two great Dubliners, Rosie Hackett and Willie Bermingham, will be forever associated and that ALONE can raise some vital funds to help fund services for older people from the sale of this song,\u201d Cllr Lacey said.<br \/>\nResponding to the gesture, CEO of ALONE, Sean Moynihan said, \u201cAll money raised from the sale of The Ballad of Rosie Hackett will directly fund vital services for older people.\u201d<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catholicireland.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/Rosie-Hackett-CD-cover.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"269\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are truly thankful for the time, efforts and talent of Dermot, Martin and Geraldine, their support is really appreciated. We hope that people will make an effort to take two minutes from their day and download the song from iTunes in support of ALONE\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The Ballad of Rosie Hackett is <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/album\/ballad-rosie-hackett-single\/id900106716\" target=\"_blank\">available for download on iTunes<\/a> for $0.99.<\/p>\n<p>Established in 1977, ALONE provides vital supports to the one in ten older people who are in need. I pioneered the 20% Social and Affordable Housing concept though the Dublin Docklands Development MasterPlan and have established a housing co-op in my own area and am a Board member of an Approved Housing Body. I was for ten years Chairperson of the South Dublin\/Wicklow Branch of the Irish Foster Care Association. Clubs and Committees Currently on Dublin City Council I Chair the South East Area Committee and the Housing Strategic Policy Committee. I am Board member of Donnybrook Community Employment and Sandymount Community Services, Donnybrook Community Playschool and numerous other local, community and Dublin wide organisations. I am member of the Board of Scouting Ireland, the City of Dublin Education and Training Board and the Royal Hospital Donnybrook Board. I have also served as Chairperson of the South East Area Committee. I was elected Leader of the Labour Group in 2011. I have served as Cathaoirleach of the Dublin Regional Authority, the Southern and Eastern Regional Assembly and the Eastern and Midlands Regional Assembly. The only person to chair all three. I pioneered the 20% Social and Affordable Housing concept though the Dublin Docklands Development MasterPlan and have established a housing co-op in my own area and am a Board member of an Approved Housing Body. I was for ten years Chairperson of the South Dublin\/Wicklow Branch of the Irish Foster Care Association. Clubs and Committees Currently on Dublin City Council I Chair the South East Area Committee and the Housing Strategic Policy Committee. I am Board member of Donnybrook Community Employment and Sandymount Community Services, Donnybrook Community Playschool and numerous other local, community and Dublin wide organisations. I am member of the Board of Scouting Ireland, the City of Dublin Education and Training Board and the Royal Hospital Donnybrook Board.
