Other speakers were Pat The Cope Gallagher T.D., Minister of State at the Department of the Enviornment, Heritage and Local Government, Rachel Kenny, Irish Planning Institute and Michael McLonne, Donegal County Manager.
Needless to say the Minister was not too pleased with Dermot!

Your Editorial “Landmark scheme” (28th July) was as welcome as it was unusual, in that it painted an accurate, if all to rare portrayal, of the work of Dublin City Council.

MINISTER MUST COME CLEAN ON PROPOSED GARDA STATION CLOSURES
The Labour Party Councillor Dermot Lacey has called on Minister McDowell to come clean on which Garda stations will close.
He said: “The announcement by Minister McDowell that a number of long-established Garda stations are to close is absolutely shocking, particularly given the worrying levels of crime in Irish society. Garda stations are an important part of the social infrastructure in Irish society providing a degree of security and reassurance, especially in areas experiencing serious crime and vandalism problems. Closing Garda stations will only leave vulnerable communities exposed to criminals.

“Had the City Council the power and the resources, we might have been able to make real inroads to our Housing situation rather than the growing crisis facing so many families and individuals in our Capital City”.
